Tablets have been around for quite a while yet many are still unclear what the ultimate use case for the device is. At this point in time I don’t think anyone has a certain answer and things may shape (and probably will) in several directions.
Puzzled by this, I went back to the flurry.com’s January analytics post that took a look at different types of apps that Apple was testing on a (at that time) unknown device. While data is quite conclusive (Go Gaming!) we have to take the numbers with a grain of salt as they are probably excluding a good chunk of iBooks testing (iBooks are not tracked via flurry). To sum it up – Apple is seeing the device as a strong gaming platform with entertainment and social networking capabilities.
I’ll come back to this post once they sell 500k devices and we’ll check if the assumptions turned out to be true (Apple Touch initially targeted music fans – yet, the platform turned out into a gaming gem while music features turned out to be just a sideshow).
