It’s been a while since my last post – so here is a good one… I often take screenshots with my iPad and shots often end up saved in a way that requires image rotation. The current version of iOS will not allow you to rotate images (rotate may become a part of iOS 4) so I had to look for a workaround – do a Google search on “How to Rotate Photo on iPad” and you’ll be more lost than before. There is a couple nifty apps that will do the job for a symbolic 99 cents (e.g., Photo Rotate) – however, I wanted to avoid installing yet another app on my already overcrowded device.

Photoshop to ‘rotation rescue’! I am sure many of you have the app already installed (I covered it here: Photoshop for iPad – this free application has a built in ‘rotate’ feature that is kind of buried below the ‘crop’ icon. See the screenshots below for details – the whole process is fairly straightforward and should be be a non brainier.

  • First, get the app from here: Photoshop Express for iPad (you may have it already)…
  • Second, open the app and navigate to your photo (see Image 1 – select the image that needs to be rotated)
Third, hit the crop icon (Step 1 – Image 2) and select option “ROTATE” (Step 2 – Image 2)

Hope this will help you rotate the darn thing :-)

Photoshop for iPad
Dan Ackerman of CNET has a nice (short and sweet) review of Adobe Photoshop Express for iPad – you can read the article here. Now, if you take in consideration that the app is free most of the criticism could be discounted – yet, given the power of its big brother the little guy simply cannot avoid mockery.

Here is the Ackerman’s conclusion:

It’s not a bad app, and for free, it’s very nicely put together–but users are clearly expecting more, judging from the overwhelming negative ratings on Apple’s app store. With the iPad’s large display and touch-control capabilities, we could certainly see a more full-featured version of Photoshop as a useful tool.
