It seems that many players, from big (NYT) to small (see below) are jockeying for a piece of the iPad pie. Yet, nobody should be surprised given the success of the iPod product line and multi-billion accessory/software/content industry that it spawned.

The rush is not contained to the States – judging from the visitor logs to this blog the interest is simply global – every continent and (I believe)) every country sent visitors to this blog (Google Analytics lists over 200 countries in my visitors log).

I just got an email from the folks at Guangzhou Treetop Trading Co., Ltd., China and they are seeking distributors in the States – if someone has interest hit the link above – I cannot vouch for the company as I never did business with them and I am not affiliated with them… I simply am surprised with the speed of reaction of the global accessory manufacturers though.

Tree Top’s Accessory Offering

This is the first one in the series of post on Apple accessories for the iPad.

Here is what Apple had to say on this accessory:

The Keyboard Dock combines a dock for charging your iPad with a full-size keyboard. The dock has a rear 30-pin connector, which lets you connect to an electrical outlet using the USB Power Adapter, sync to your computer, and use accessories like the Camera Connection Kit. An audio jack lets you connect to a stereo or powered speakers.

The two images below show Apple’s iPad Keyboard Dock:

When iPod was released almost 10 years ago the accessory market was slow to pick up. In the beggining a couple of vendors offered more or less good speaker options, one could buy a pair of headphones and a screen protector decals – and that was it. Ten years after, the iPod accessory market is a jungle – you can pretty much find anything you want (or need) and that uses or helps use the iPod (see image below – iLounge iPod Toilet Paper Roll Dispenser).
Enter the iPad! This time around the accessories market will not be dormant for years – there is a slew of new accessories being announced or already demoed (I am already getting spam posts with links to iPad cables, screen protectors, cases, etc.) To sum this up, here is what Belkin one of the largest iPod accessories manufacturers had to say on the subject:

“The iPad market has huge potential,” said Jamie Elgie, a product management director; at accessory company Belkin International. “We think it has the potential to be game-changing and we need to be on top of it.”
