George Hotz, of the-first-to-unlock-the-iPhone fame, claims that he has a hack that can universally unlock all devices locked and running on iPhone OS platform (this certainly includes the iPad)…

The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1n. It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models (ipt2, 3gs, ipt3), and will probably work on iPad too.

Needles to say, there are 600+ comments hanging below his post…

There is a slew of reports in the blogosphere today about an alleged iPad Jailbreak – apparently p0sixninja /Greenpois0n (links below) have released screenshots with iPad Jailbreak proof (with limited knowledge about the murky world of jailbreaking I cannot comment on the validity of the shots). Nevertheless, I checked p0sixninja Twitter page (link below) and he clearly states that no valid jailbreak can be accomplished without actually physically having the device (he calls for donations to purchase one thought). Read below for quotes announcing the jailbreak and the p0sixninja’s tweet on the subject:

…a developer in the Group called Chronic-Dev has claimed to have a jailbreak tool available for latest AppleiPad running on OS 3.2. The developer behind Greenpois0n tool is a person named p0sixninja and he has just uploaded a screenshot of his jailbreaking tool for iPhone and iPod touch, which is said to now can even jailbreak Apple iPad.

Yet, p0sixninja states via his Twitter page that:

…you can’t really develop a jailbreak for the ipad unless you have one to develop it on….it’s a classic chicken and egg problem…
