I took a look at domain name owners for ipad.com and islate.com and found an interesting piece of information.
Anyhow, islate.com is registered by an unknown party via Markmonitor, a company that handles domain names for Apple’s brands. On the other hand ipad.com is registered by ENERO 6 CORP (or, translated from Spanish – January 6th Corp) – I could not find anything on this company on the web.

At this point in time I’d venture to claim that Apple has made decision and that they will be going with iSlate name for the upcoming product. This of course assumes that there is no third name in play (I find this to be unlikely this late in the game). See the table and image below:

Domain Owner Registrar Look it up
apple.com Apple Markmonitor.com http://whois.domaintools.com/apple.com
iPod.com Apple Markmonitor.com http://whois.domaintools.com/ipod.com
iSlate.com Unknown Markmonitor.com http://whois.domaintools.com/islate.com
iPad.com Enero 6 Corp Network Solutions http://whois.domaintools.com/ipad.com

OK – you probably saw the post below where I had a blurb on the release delay of the upcoming Apple tablet – there has not been much other news about the device lately. Yet, a day or two ago Apple took control of TABLETMAC trademark and it appears that they will be using this tag to name the new device.

Apple has taken control of the TabletMac trademark, a moniker previously owned by a company called Axiotron. To see previous references to the trademarked name follow this link. In short, the company was modding Macs by removing the keyboard and screen of a Apple’s MacBooks and mounting a Wacom pen screen instead. The official site of the company is here: Axiotron.com.
