You can either go left (Kindle) or right (iPad) – pick your route…

I’d love to hear Kindle folks here – I do not own one but looking at the thing I just have to say that it looks a bit, well, boring…

One Response to “Kindle or iPad, that is the question (or not)”

  1. Uncle Mikey says:

I own a Kindle (and am contemplating an iPad, which is how I found the site).

You’re not wrong about the Kindle not being the most exciting-looking gadget ever. In fact, in a lot of ways, it’s downright primitive.

That said…I like it for what it is and what it does. I can read books on it. The screen is clear under the same conditions that the page of a book would be clear. Variable font sizes allow me to adjust for how my eyes are feeling that day. Over-the-air purchase is addictive.

It also has a couple of often passed over features I’ve found useful at times. The Kindle 1 had an SD Card slot, and the Kindle (like the iPhone and presumably the iPad) can decode Audible.com audio books. For a while, before I had a larger iPhone, my Kindle was my all-in-one digital-format book repository: both eBooks and audio books.

If I get an iPad, it may be supplementing my Kindle — because it will give me access to other bookstores, for example — but the device it will most be replacing is my netbook.

I’ll admit, however, that having an iPad would make me somewhat less likely to *replace* my Kindle if something happened to it.
