While this news is semantic in nature it still bears significance:

But there was no complaint from Cisco on Monday, when Apple CEO Steve Jobs said his company has decided to market the iPhone operating system under the name “iOS” — even though Cisco has been using iOS for nearly two decades as the name of its own software, also known as the Internetwork Operating System, which runs on a variety of Cisco’s networking gear.
Cisco said Monday that it had already agreed to let Apple use the iOS name. The companies did not disclose terms of the deal.

The change will clear any possible confusion that may stem from the OS continuing to carry the iPhone flag. Read more here

Apple is calling developers to start submitting applications for the Grand Opening of the iPad segment of the app store. To be considered, login in with your developer account id and follow the instructions outlined below and provided in an email distributed to registered Apple developers.

Based on this we can conclude that Apple will continue to maintain a tight on the app approval process and will control the application market in the same way as they do for iPhone/iTouch apps. Read below for details or register for a developer account at the link above.

iPad will begin shipping soon and your opportunity to be part of the grand opening of the iPad App Store starts today. Submit your iPad app now for an initial review by the App Review Team and receive feedback on its readiness for the grand opening. Submit Your App by March 27.

  1. Build and test your iPad app using iPhone SDK 3.2 beta 5 available on the iPhone Dev Center. Only iPad apps built with iPhone SDK 3.2 beta 5 will be accepted for this initial review.
  2. Upload your distribution signed app through iTunes Connect by Saturday, March 27, 5pm PDT.
  3. The App Review Team will review your app on iPad and email you details about the readiness of your app.
  4. You will also receive additional information about submitting your app for final review before iPad ships.
  5. Only apps submitted for the initial review will be considered for the grand opening of the iPad App Store.

iPad Dev Camp Logo

If you are in Nor Cal next month and have interest in iPad application development make sure to visit iPadDevCamp. The camp will take place from 16th to 18th April in the Bay Area – here are the logistics:

Location: 2161 N 1st St, San Jose, CA 95131 (PayPal/ebay offices).
Event Fee: $52.24
Date: 4/16 to 4/18
Target Audience: Designers, developers, and iPad targeting publishers
Event Promo Site: ipaddevcamp

Attendees will include Cocoa Touch developers, web developers, UI designers, and testers, all working together over the weekend. Development projects will include both solo and team efforts. While some attendees will wish to work solo during the event, we encourage attendees to team up, based on expertise, to work in ad-hoc project development teams. All attendees should be prepared to work on a development project during the event.
Attendees will be able to:
a) Create new applications for iPad.
b) Migrate Mac OS X applications to iPad.
c) Test and optimize applications for iPad.

I think this is pretty cool – it’s a right time to organize it and it will certainly help spread the knowledge – it’s also cool that folks who are not able to physically be there are enable to follow the event via web – for more details about the saltellite sessions hit this link.
